Piano Lessons

I teach how to learn, and I teach how to learn piano.

Lessons with me are all-encompassing, rigorous, and fun. I have a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and a decade of experience as a 1:1 therapist. I have taught music professionally for 19 years and I delight in scaffolding the creative process for others. I place a big emphasis on students’ relationship with learning and their own self-efficacy. Lessons with me are an even mix of music theory, ear training, improvisation, sight reading, and learning to find enjoyment in the pursuit of music.

Students who study with me will learn to wield the common musical language that connects different styles of music: from Bach and Chopin to Radiohead and Taylor Swift. My lessons have a low-stakes, high-encouragement flavor, peppered with ‘let’s break this down further’ and an aftertaste of “look at you soar!”. I utilize a wide array of educational resources and can accommodate a student or parent’s specific goals.

I teach all skill levels and ages, from the 'total, complete beginner' to the 'gigging professional who wants to fine-tune their chops'. Lessons take place in your home or online.
