The Gravy-House Storytellers

The Gravy-House Storytellers are proud to present mouth-watering musical marmalade from the 1920's through the 1940's.

The Storytellers perform historically authentic arrangements of Pre-WWII-era blues shoutin', hokum, and swing tunes in celebration of the great female blues artists of the swing era. Our ensemble seeks to echo historical messages of women’s empowerment, autonomy, and independence - - from an age where such topics were often ‘coded’ and relegated to the smoky fringes of after-hours jazz clubs.

Our sound is a 'snapshot' of that moment in time when blues and swing first collided; with a repertoire that favors 'mid-tempo blues' for dancing, drinking, and listening alike ~
